Saturday, August 31, 2019 / 8pm

Route 66 Casino presents comedian, actor and best-selling author Sebastian Maniscalco at Albuquerque’s Legends Theater!

Dubbed “the comedian’s comedian” by PEOPLE, and distinguished by the New York Times as having his “own kind of panache,” Maniscalco’s live performances have become critically-acclaimed events “embraced with thundering applause and tear-inducing laughter,” according to a Billboard review describing his Sept. 8, 2018 sold-out Greek Theatre performance as “devastatingly full-force comedy.”

2018 was a milestone year for Maniscalco with a string of record-breaking sold-out comedy appearances, a best-selling memoir Stay Hungry (available in paperback Nov. 13), five sold-out shows at New York’s iconic Radio City Music Hall, appearances in fall films Cruise and Green Book, alongside Oscar-winner Mahershala Ali, Linda Cardellini, and Viggo Mortensen, culminating in Maniscalco receiving Billboard’s inaugural Comedian of the Year award in November.  Already hungry for 2019, Maniscalco will join a star-studded cast that includes Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, and more in Martin Scorcese’s upcoming film The Irishman.

Still, for Maniscalco, the work continues. Says the comedian, “There’s a voice always in the back of my head saying ‘Don’t rest!”

Rob Thomas Chip Tooth Tour

Friday, September 13, 2019 / 8pm
Ticket Prices: $50, $75, $90, $120

Route 66 Casino Hotel presents Rob Thomas: Chip Tooth Tour!

Life, love, and music eventually arrive full circle. We reach the place where we began not only wiser, but with more wonder for the bearing of the past on the future. Three-time GRAMMY® award winner Rob Thomas progresses by recognizing his roots. In fact, the singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and Matchbox Twenty co-founder picks up a thread from his formative years and weaves a bold and bright new chapter on his fourth solo offering, Chip Tooth Smile (Emblem/Atlantic Records).

Fittingly, the experience earned from over two decades as one of modern music’s preeminent songwriter and front men empowers him to do so.

“I’ve always been a radio kid,” he explains. “I grew up listening to all of this music from the late seventies and early eighties in the car with my mom. I knew every lyric to every song on the air. There’s a sensibility to the way I write that’s been informed by eighties songwriters, especially. I feel like I grow each year. Hopefully, that trend will continue until I am ready to stop.

He most certainly does on Chip Tooth Smile. In fact, the record represents a confluence of firsts for the New York-based artist. After three tour packed summers, he took the summer of 2018 off and commenced writing for what would become his latest album. Three years removed since 2015’s The Great Unknown, he amassed a career high 60 ideas to be whittled down into the next body of work. All along, there would be no choice but to work with longtime friend Butch Walker behind-the-board as producer. It notably marked his first collaboration outside of producers Matt Serletic and Steve Lillywhite, but one he admits to “manifesting.

Throughout his illustrious career, Thomas has consistently made history. He received a rare Diamond Award from the RIAA for Matchbox Twenty’s 12-times platinum debut Yourself or Someone Like You. His 2005 platinum solo debut, Something to Be, became “the first album by a male artist from a rock or pop group to debut at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 since the chart debuted. Its follow-up cradlesong cemented him as “the only male artist with multiple #1 hits at Adult 40,while he tied P!nk for “most #1s by a solo artist in the chart’s history. Not to mention, he teamed up with Santana for 1999’s “Smooth,” which not only earned three GRAMMY® Awards, but also held the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 weeks and spent 58 total weeks on the chart. The song emerged as #1 song in Billboard’s Top Hot 100 Rock Songs” chart history and “#2 Hot 100 Song of All-Time”. “Smooth” was also declared the all-time #1 song on Billboard’s “Adult Pop Songs” radio airplay chart, the #1 song of the Rock Era based on chart performance on Billboard’s Hot 100 and recently declared to still hold the spot as the second most successful song of all time by Billboard.

Thomas became the first-ever recipient of the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame Hal David Starlight Award created to recognize a composer in the early years of his or her career that has already made a lasting impact. Moreover, he garnered numerous BMI and ASCAP awards and would be crowned “Songwriter of the Year” by both Billboard and BMI. Total record sales for his output exceed 80 million worldwide. Additionally, his commitment to philanthropy remains as staunch as his commitment to music. Among many charitable initiatives, he launched the Sidewalk Angels Foundation which benefits individuals in need throughout major cities.

In the end, Thomas comes full circle and delivers a record both befitting of his reputation and indicative of his future. “I write a lot of songs about the human condition, how people interact with each other, and how we deal with our environments,” he leaves off. “I want people to take them and attach them to their lives. I hope they possibly speak to what they’re going through, and I’m always thankful they’re still listening,” he smiles.

A.B. Quintanilla III y Los Kumbia Kings

Saturday, September 14, 2019 / 8pm
Ticket Prices: $29, $49, $65, $85

Route 66 Casino Hotel presents AB Quintanilla Kumbia King All Starz!

Imagine a young man’s flight from poverty, from denial to embrace of his heritage, from a dream attained to a dream shattered, a rise and fall and rise again, to achievements unprecedented in his field …

That, in bare outline, is the life of A. B. Quintanilla — or, more accurately, the first stage in the life of this extraordinary musician, producer, songwriter, loyal family member, and survivor.

True, he had a head start in a way; when his sister Selena shone as the brightest young star in Latin music, A. B. was at her side, producing her records, writing her hits, playing bass onstage with her in their family’s band.

But in the dark years that followed her passing in 1995, A. B. had to fight back toward the light on his own. It was, as he says now, an experience “I would not wish on my worst enemy,” yet it was also undeniably a trial from which one either emerges strong or doesn’t emerge at all.

Today, Quintanilla can look back on a history of rare accomplishment even as he builds on a foundation for conquests to come. He’s won Grammys and BMI songwriting awards, founded and led one of the most popular bands in the modern Latin market, built a studio complex that lets him produce hits without straying far from his roots in Texas. Like his sister, A. B. has built a unique sound in his music by drawing from diverse sources of inspiration. And he’s gearing up to explore areas untouched by other musical entrepreneurs.

As the Latin music boom builds, A. B. Quintanilla’s contributions will only grow greater. Yet no matter how many careers he launches, or how much he helps to enrich America’s changing soundscape, he will never turn his back on the past, on the lessons learned through hardship as well as love.

Route 66 Casino presents the classic southern rock band 38 Special. This multi-platinum band will perform for one night only in Albuquerque’s Legends Theater!

After more than four decades together, 38 Special continues to bring a signature blast of Southern Rock to over 100 cities a year! Their many Gold and Platinum album awards stand in testament to the endurance of a legendary powerhouse.

With sales in excess of 20 million, most associate the band with their timeless arena-rock pop smashes, “Hold On Loosely,” “Rockin’ Into the Night,” “Caught Up in You,” “Fantasy Girl,” “If I’d Been the One,” “Back Where You Belong,” “Chain Lightnin’,” “Second Chance,” and more– hits that remain a staple on radio stations, immediately recognizable from the opening chord, and paving the way to their present-day touring regimen.

Guitarist, vocalist, and founding member, Don Barnes, says it’s all about maintaining that intensity in their live shows. “We never wanted to be one of those bands that had maybe gotten a little soft or complacent over the years. We’re a team, and it’s always been kind of an unspoken rule that we don’t slack up, we stack up. We go out there every night to win.

Route 66 Casino Hotel presents Creedence Clearwater Revisited!

Friday, November 8, 2019 / 8pm
Ticket Prices: $45, $63, $73, $94

Creedence Clearwater Revival founding members and Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Stu Cook and Doug “Cosmo” Clifford have been on quite a ride.  Following their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Cosmo and Stu launched their Creedence Clearwater Revisited project in 1995 to once again perform live in concert the hit songs — touchstones of a generation.

Since then, the legendary rhythm section has been thrilled by the outpouring of affection for their new band.   World tours and a platinum selling album Recollection followed.  The astounding response to the band has been driven in part by new generations of fans that, as Cosmo says, “weren’t even born when the music came out.”

In 2013, Classic Rock Revisited critic Jeb Wright wrote about a Creedence Clearwater Revisited concert he attended. “The true test of any concert is how the music makes you feel. On this night, this writer walked away with a wonderful feeling, having just witnessed timeless, historical music, performed to perfection. Creedence Clearwater Revisited not only looks to the past, performing iconic songs, they bring them to the modern day, reminding us all of the true importance of this music.”

Big Head Todd and the Monsters perform live in Albuquerque this December.

Route 66 Casino Hotel presents Big Head Todd and the Monsters!

Saturday, December 14, 2019 / 8pm
Ticket Prices: $28 – $59

Route 66 Casino Hotel is pleased to announce that rock band Big Head Todd and the Monsters, best known for hits like “Broken Hearted Savior,” “Bittersweet,” and “Circle” from their platinum-selling 1993 album “Sister Sweetly,” will bring their Winter Tour to Legends Theater in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday, December 14th at 8 p.m.

Big Head Todd and the Monsters are not that big on anniversaries, so there won’t be any big hoopla over the fact that the band is officially crossing the three-decade mark this year. Thirty years would seem like something to commemorate, especially with the same core lineup, an achievement few other name-brand bands can boast of. Yet right now they’re less about celebrating stability than volatility, in the form of their eleventh studio album, New World Arisin’, which makes good on its forward-facing title with what might be the brashest rock and roll of their career. The old world can’t rest on any laurels, and neither will they.

“We’re in a real exciting part of our career right now,” says co-founder Todd Park Mohr.  “We’re a viable band with a great audience and we’re able to work at a very high level. It’s a career that’s getting more and more interesting, rather than less, which is remarkable,” he says, chuckling at the unlikelihood of anyone being this cheerfully all-in, this far in. “I mean, 30 years into it, I really feel like: Wow, this is getting fun. I’m learning more about music and about my instrument, and it’s just really engaging in every way. We also dovetail well with the times, I think; I feel like we have something to say.”

That desire to communicate and connect is very much reflected in a new album that explores a variety of subgenres, from the funky (“Trip”) to the unexpectedly punky (“Detonator”), with stops along the way for raging country-rock (“Damaged One”), expansive storytelling in the Van Morrison/early Springsteen mode (“Wipeout Turn”), a Jimi Hendrix cover (“Room Full of Mirrors”), and, in the title track, “New World Arisin’,” a Charley Patton-inspired tune that ended up having what Mohr describes as “a heavy metal/gospel feel.” He doesn’t feel these musical zigzags will give fans musical whiplash. “The fact is, most people, like myself, listen to multiple genres of music, so I don’t think people have a problem with variety. I love it.”

Their honors extend beyond their home state of Colorado and even home country… into space. In 2005, they released the single “Blue Sky,” a tribute to the space program, written at the behest of crew members taking to the heavens aboard the space shuttle Discovery; it was performed years later as a live wake-up call to the astronauts on the shuttle.

What’s clear is that Big Head Todd is one multi-headed rock monster, easily traversing the most accessible hooks and the heaviest grooves. It’s not surprising that they would appeal to any audience or sub-audience that values durability over flavors of the moment. But Mohr has to laugh when he thinks about how little the possibility of long-term perseverance was on the members’ minds 30 years ago.

“When you form, I think your goal is to make it through the party on Saturday night,” he points out. “In art, longevity isn’t the goal. It’s a happy accident if it happens, and I think ours was one of those convenient accidents that led to a happy marriage. But we happen to get along really well and love being with each other and playing music for a living.” Simple as it may sound, that’s a profound recipe for endurance in both the old world and the new.
